Materials

  • 1 skein of worsted weight yarn (approximately 200 yards)
  • Size 8 (5mm) knitting needles
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge

18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in rib stitch

Abbreviations

  • CO: Cast on
  • K: Knit
  • P: Purl
  • : Repeat
  • : Knit 2 stitches together
  • : Purl 2 stitches together
  • : Slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over
  • : Slip 1 stitch purlwise, purl 1, pass slipped stitch over

Instructions

  1. CO 96 stitches.
  2. Join in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches.
  3. Work in rib stitch (K1, P1) for the desired length. For a slouchy beanie, work for approximately 8 inches. For a firm fit beanie, work for approximately 6 inches.
  4. Begin the decreases. Knit 2 stitches, *K2tog, K2*; repeat from * to * around the row.
  5. Continue decreasing every other row until there are 12 stitches remaining.
  6. Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread the tail through the remaining stitches and pull tight to close the beanie.
  7. Weave in any loose ends.

Finishing

The Everly Slouchy or Firm Fit Rib Beanie is now complete! You can customize the beanie further by adding a pompom or other embellishments.

Tips

  • If you are new to knitting, I recommend watching a few YouTube tutorials on how to cast on, knit, and purl before starting this pattern.
  • Be sure to check your gauge before beginning the pattern. If your gauge is different from the gauge given in the pattern, you may need to adjust the number of stitches you cast on.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment with different yarn weights and colors. This pattern can be used to create a variety of different beanies, so have fun with it!

The Everly Slouchy or Firm Fit Rib Beanie Knitting Pattern is a great way to learn how to knit or to make a quick and easy gift. This versatile pattern can be customized to create a beanie that is perfect for any style or head size. So grab your yarn and needles and get started on your Everly beanie today!
